X-Cart is very flexible in terms of configuring shipping and tax settings.
It also allows to show the product price including tax.
However there is underwater stone: customers don't see the right totals and are upset
when they see increased prices/totals after they log in or register.
If the tax charges are the same for all states you can use the following feature of X-Cart:
- Log in to admin area;
- go to "General options" section;
- enable option "When customer is not logged in, it is assumed that he is from default location";
- set correct default address in that section.
However this trick will not work if charges vary from state to state. If you are aimed to serve customers from United States or Canada, then our solution is for you. Our mod is designed in the following way: if customers are not logged in, they will see special box for zipcode in their cart menu. Once they fill their zip code, X-Cart will remember it and will use to calculate and show appropriate shipping charges and tax fees defined for that location. So customers can estimate accurate order total (including tax and shipping) before they decide to register or log in.
